INFORMATION
Historic Howard has been serving the community since it was built in 1916. Originally housing grades 1-12. They were known as The Howard Hornets and their colors were black and gold. The original scoreboard is currently on display in Newcastle at the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame. Howard now houses two sections of grades K-6. We currently serve 236 students with twenty-five certified staff and nine para professionals. Two classrooms were added in 1956. Construction in 1979 added three classrooms, a media center and a gymnasium. A new playground was installed in the Spring of 2006. Demolition of the 1956 addition and construction of 5 classrooms, a cafeteria, and remodeling of the 1916 building were just completed. The remainder of the building received major upgrades that included a new heating and air conditioning system, dropped ceilings, new paint and carpet. During the fall of 2008, the gym was upgraded with the installation of a new floor. Technology upgrades include a ceiling mounted wireless projector and a Gateway tablet for each teacher. Grades K-3 also have 5 student computers in each classroom. Grades 4-6 have access to 2 wireless laptop carts. All grades have access to the main computer lab and Distance Learning Center. There is also a new wireless projector and sound system in the cafeteria. We are proud of all of the educational resources available to help our students continued achievement.
